Lately, that seems to be a primary goal of Blumhouse, whose latest release is a follow-up to The Craft, which follows a four high school girls who discover the joys (and dangers) of practicing witchcraft. Like witches themselves, these movies resist easy classification: Here you’ll find selections from horror and comedy, as well as entries that blend or defy both genres. It’s a classic story: Boy meets girl, boy seduces girl, boy meets and seduces the other two girls, boy is almost certainly the Devil, all three girls finally realize they’ve been witches this entire time. This isn’t a movie for the squeamish: In the opening sequence, a spiked mask is hammered onto star Barbara Steele’s head, and later, scorpions crawl out of her grotesque, semi-preserved face. Legacy even features a variation on one of Charmed’s catch phrases, as Helen frequently reminds Lily, "Your difference is your power," while the mother of the Charmed Ones would tell them, "Your differences are your strengths." Lily is doing her best to be supportive, but she is startled by a striped snake, or perhaps it is just her imagination. Netflix subscribers have options as well, with new releases including Sundance midnight movie “His House” and Polish import “Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight.” (The streamer is still pushing Adam Sandler trick-or-treat comedy “Hubie Halloween,” and just dropped “Holidate” this week as well. Snyder’s “Us Kids” feels a bit like old news, as it focuses on a school massacre and the subsequent activist tide that occurred less than two years ago, yet somehow already feel distant.
